PROJECT MANAGER
GLOBAL COMMUNICATION INFRASTRUCTURE

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to manage subsea telecoms installation projects as part of a skilled team. This includes coordination and management of engineering, design, supply chain, field works and acceptance with the objective of delivering the project on time and on budget.

The role is truly multi-disciplinary as it involves understanding and orchestrating a number of different exciting aspects, e.g. submerged and land-based equipment, transmission technology, surveys at various locations, cable manufacturing or installation. It also involves working with several contributors, both internal and external to Xtera.

Another key element of the role is being the interface between Xtera and the customer. As such you are expected to play a key role in the day-by-day communication with the customer as well as facilitating efficient communication with other parties involved in the project, such as consultants or subcontractors.

RESPONISIBILITIES
    • Project performance monitoring
      • Plan of Work (MS Project) and resource planning and tracking
      • Budget and cash flow tracking
      • Action and risk registers
      • Quality assurance
    • Reporting – internally and externally
      • Regular project reporting including creating and reviewing minutes
      • Customer reports, generated for specific technical or operational reasons
      • Interface for all formal communication with the customer, stakeholders and sponsors
      • Management of documentation exchange and schedule
      • Organize and chair calls as well as Customer Coordination Meetings (CCM)
      • Initiate specific calls and meetings to address or resolve specific issues
      • Internal reporting to CPSO, Xtera Leadership Team (XLT), and Xtera board
      • To drive or perform the following aspects of project management:
    • Supply Chain
      • Collaborate with engineers, system architects to determine the specifications of the project
      • Negotiate contracts with external vendors to reach mutually beneficial agreements
      • Drive supply chain for equipment and materials and monitor stocks to timely handle potential short falls
      • Work with Supply Chain team to address and mitigate schedule risks
    • Delivery and Installation
      • Monitor acquisition of permits and licenses from various authorities and governing entities
      • Determine project resources (personnel, equipment, and materials) from start to finish of the project, with due attention to budgetary limitations
      • Plan all installation operations and schedule intermediate phases to meet deadlines
      • Hire contractors and other staff, assigning responsibilities as the project dictates
      • Supervise the work of subcontractors and liaise with their project managers
    • General
      • Manage Xtera project team including consultants and subcontractors
      • Maintain quality records g. test procedures, test results, qualification procedures
      • Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and report issues
      • Identify costs of ongoing activities and ensure that these are compared with the budget
REQUIREMENTS
  • Proven experience as a project manager, ideally in submarine cable construction or related industries
  • In-depth understanding of applicable procedures and project management principles (Project Management qualification, PMP or similar will be a plus)
  • Understanding of key technologies associated with submarine cable projects
  • Familiarity with quality and health and safety standards
  • Good knowledge of MS Office including MS Project
  • Proven communication and negotiation skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • A team player with leadership abilities and adaptability
  • Full driving license and willingness to travel worldwide
