London, UK – 17 September 2026 – Xtera, an innovative provider of subsea fiber optic solutions, has been selected by EXA Infrastructure to provide the optical engineering and wet and dry plant for EXA Meridian, a state-of-the-art transatlantic subsea cable connecting New Jersey, US, with Brean, UK.
The project, announced by EXA Infrastructure today, will add a new high-capacity route to EXA Infrastructure’s transatlantic network, with 24 fibre pairs and more than 500Tbps of scalable capacity. The system is targeted to go live in Q4 2029.
The engagement reflects Xtera’s ability to work closely with customers from the early stages of a project, combining deep subsea engineering expertise with the flexibility to adapt as requirements evolve. This approach enables Xtera to develop technically robust solutions while maintaining the pace and responsiveness needed to move complex projects forward.

EXA Meridian will be integrated into EXA Infrastructure’s wider owned network, connecting through a new cable landing station at Brean and a diverse terrestrial backhaul route into Slough and EXA Infrastructure’s pan-European backbone.
The EXA Meridian project further demonstrates Xtera’s ability to support major network operators with flexible delivery models, combining specialist technical expertise with close customer collaboration.
